Penicuik occurs as burgh in Midlothian, Scotland, lying on the west bank of the River North Esk. A town was developed as a planned village in 1770 by Sir James Clerk of Penicuik. A town was easily known for its paper mills, the previous of which closed around 1975. Further recently a town has been personal to the Edinburgh Crystal works.
